Encoding JTC24 Product Identifiers for Digital Product Passports onto RAIN RFID Data Carriers
Active
How each of the five product identification schemes defined in EN 18219 can be encoded on a RAIN RFID tag, so that a Digital Product Passport can be read across the supply chain. RAIN RFID is an accepted DPP data carrier under EN 18220. Where an encoding is already standardised, GS1 and EPC in particular, this document refers to the existing standard rather than restating it. It is guidance, not a normative specification.

About this document
The document is dated September 2026 and carries version 1.0. It was published here on 27 September 2026.
It builds on the work of CEN/CENELEC JTC 24, which recognises RAIN RFID among the accepted data carriers but does not fully specify how each identification scheme should be encoded on a tag. Sections 3.1 to 3.5 take the five schemes in turn, each with its standards basis and a worked encoding example.
The RAIN URI Templates it encodes against are published separately, as the RAIN URI Template list, under References below. Reference 9 of this document points a reader at this register for them.
